Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I receive this vacuum?
We hold UK stock for immediate testing. Each vacuum is DOP tested to order with a 1-day testing lead time. Full DOP certification and dispatch typically within 2-3 working days of your order. FREE UK mainland delivery is included.
Is the 6-month DOP certification really included in the price?
Yes, absolutely. Every vacuum is fully DOP (dispersed oil particulate) tested before dispatch. You'll receive 6-month DOP certification and electrical test certificates with your vacuum at no additional cost. This is a significant saving compared to purchasing an uncertified vacuum and arranging testing separately.
What happens when the 6-month certification expires?
UK legislation requires re-certification every 6 months (or when the filter is replaced, whichever comes first). We make this easy for you:
- Your vacuum is automatically registered with our DOP testing partner
- You'll receive reminders when re-testing is due
- Re-testing costs approximately £120 + VAT (includes filter replacement, decontamination, certification and return shipping)
- You can use our partner or any accredited testing company
Can I use this for non-licensed asbestos work?
Yes. This vacuum is fully compliant with BS 8520-3:2009 and suitable for both licensed and non-licensed asbestos work. It's perfect for shadow vacuuming during removal, enclosure cleanup, domestic property work below notification thresholds, and any situation where asbestos-containing materials need to be safely captured.
Is this suitable for asbestos surveying work?
Yes. This vacuum meets HSG264 standards for asbestos surveying and sampling. It includes a drilling enclosure which fits onto the hose end and ensures particles are contained when taking bulk samples. The clear hose makes it easy to identify blockages, which is essential for surveying work.
What's the difference between ULPA and HEPA filters?
ULPA (Ultra Low Penetration Air) filters offer superior filtration compared to HEPA:
- ULPA H14: 99.999% efficient at 0.12 microns (this vacuum)
- HEPA H13: 99.97% efficient at 0.3 microns
ULPA filters capture even smaller particles more effectively, making them ideal for asbestos work where maximum safety is essential. Both meet BS EN 1822 standards.
How do I know when the filter needs replacing?
This vacuum features a built-in indicator light connected to an airflow sensor. If air speed drops below 20m/s (the minimum safe level required by BS 8520-3:2009), the light illuminates. First, check all accessories for blockages. If no blockages are found, the filter is full and needs replacing. This safety system ensures you never compromise on protection.
Can I replace the filter myself?
No. ULPA filters in asbestos vacuums must only be replaced by trained and accredited professionals qualified to handle asbestos waste in an appropriate controlled environment. Filter replacement is performed during the 6-monthly DOP re-testing procedure. Never attempt to replace asbestos vacuum filters yourself - this could expose you to hazardous fibres.
Should I choose 230v or 110v?
230v: Standard UK mains voltage. Use if you're working in buildings with normal power outlets. Comes with standard 3-pin UK plug.
110v: Site safety voltage. Required on many construction sites and preferred for enhanced electrical safety in wet or outdoor environments. Supplied with yellow 110v plug for use with site transformers. Check your site requirements before ordering.
What accessories are included?
Everything you need is included in the lid of the vacuum:
- 6ft clear hose for blockage identification
- Drilling enclosure for surveying work
- 8ft power cord (230v or 110v)
- Adjustable shoulder strap
- 2 hose plugs and 2 filter plugs for safe transport
- 2 asbestos waste bags (1 clear, 1 red)
- ULPA H14 filter (pre-installed)
- 6-month DOP and electrical test certificates
Is this approved for Fire Service use?
Yes. In accordance with Fire Service national method statements regarding exemption from notification requirements under the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations, this vacuum is approved for emergency asbestos response. Fire Services across the UK have chosen the Omega Plus for their emergency response vehicles and stations.
What's your returns policy?
Due to the specialized nature of asbestos vacuums and the fact that each is DOP tested to order, we cannot accept returns on opened or used vacuums. However, if there's a manufacturing defect or the vacuum arrives damaged, we'll arrange immediate replacement or repair under our 12-month parts warranty. Please inspect your vacuum upon delivery and contact us immediately if there are any concerns.
